Pinnacle Behavioral Health was conceptualized during the summer of 2017 by Matthew Gallo, LPC, and Lisa Karabelnik, MD.

Lisa Karabelnik, a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, was having difficulty finding the right program to meet the needs of her adolescent patients for whom individual and family therapy did not provide adequate support. When she discussed the lack of options with a friend, he suggested that she talk with his friend who was running the type of programming she was describing. The only problem was, he was in Chicago.

Matthew Gallo, a licensed professional counselor, had owned and operated the Chicago location of an adolescent Intensive Outpatient facility, the Family Recovery Centers, for the past five years. He was proud of the work he had done and the efficacy of his program. He also found the idea of starting a similar program in Connecticut intriguing.

After much discussion over the summer of 2017 and a lot of research, they agreed to work together to bring this program to Connecticut.

Pinnacle Behavioral Health opened its first site at Bishop's Corner in West Hartford in November 2018.
